The Dinosaur Game was created by developers at Google as an offline feature for the Chrome browser. When users lost their internet connection and attempted to open a webpage, they would see a small pixelated dinosaur on the screen along with a message saying that there was no internet connection.
Instead of simply displaying an error page, Google decided to make the experience more entertaining. By pressing the spacebar or tapping the screen, the small dinosaur would start running, and the offline page would transform into a simple endless runner game.
The developers originally called the game “Project Bolan,” a reference to Marc Bolan, the lead singer of the band T. Rex. This playful connection matched the dinosaur theme perfectly.
