Reputedly the Well House dates back to 1430, the year before Joan of Arc was burnt at the stake, before the start of the War of the Roses and half a century before Christopher Columbus discovered America.
When Henry VIII came to the throne the house was nearly 80 years old, and when his daughter, Elizabeth I, succeeded him it was 128 years old!
Many of the original features such as fireplaces and beams still remain and some of the original cobbles are on view in the tea rooms.
Because of its age, visitors should be aware of uneven floors and low beams. Our letting rooms are on floors 1 and 2 and so Bed & Breakfast guests will have some stairs to climb.
Tim, Paula and Hayley took over The Well House in February 2012. Having spent many years holidaying in Cornwall, the family decided to 'live the dream' and run their own business in Fowey - their favourite place. Quite a change from previous successful careers in the MOD and the Medical Supplies Industry
